The flag of Botswana consists of a light blue base with a black horizontal stripe through the middle of it. The black stripe has a white border outlining the top and bottom of it.

Meaning: The colors on the Botswana flag are the same as the colors of the country's coat of arms. The light blue represents water (the motto on the Botswana national arms is PULA, meaning "let there be rain"). The black and white stripes symbolize the racial harmony of the country's people, as well as the pluralist nature of the society. The stripes are inspired by the zebra, the national animal of Botswana.

History: The flag of Botswana was adopted on Sept. 30, 1966 right after Botswana received its independence from Britain.

Interesting Facts: There is a law in Botswana requires that you have permission from the government before you fly the Botswana flag. (source: worldflags101)
