Saint Vincent and the Grenadines flag patch

The flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines consists of three vertical stripes - the left stripe is blue and the right one is an equal sized green one. The middle stripe is yellow and is twice the size of the other stripes. In the center of the yellow stripe and the flag there are three green diamonds situated in a v pattern.

Meaning: The blue symbolizes the sea and sky. Yellow represents the country's golden sands and the Caribbean sunshine, as well as the warmth of the island's people. Green represents the land's vegetation and the vigor of the people. The diamonds create a 'V' standing for Saint Vincent and provide the flag with the source of its nickname which is 'the gems.'

History: The flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was adopted on October 21, 1985 after gaining independence from Britain in 1979. The diamonds replaced the flags original emblem when it was adopted.

Interesting Facts: Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is one of the rare British Commonwealth countries that did not use the British ensign flag system, and instead uses one national flag for all purposes.
